Accidentally Calling Los Barriles Home

How does a guy from Michigan and a girl from Oregon decide to call Los Barriles home?

Let me introduce myself. I am Melissa, one of the faces behind Los Barriles.Life and we’ve been flirting with calling LB home for the past year! If you told me one year ago, May 2021, I would have the life we have now, I actually think I’d laugh out loud.

You see, in 2019 we had sold it all, our house in Arizona, our vehicles, and the majority of our possessions to travel the US in an RV, on the hunt for our forever. A constant conversation for my husband and I… ‘where did we feel home?’ His answer was always: ‘near the water.’ Mine was always: ‘near the mountains.’ In an effort to settle the (at that time) 9 year debate we agreed, we only get one life, so let’s get those tires rolling and figure it out. Our goal was to explore all 50 states with our littles in tow.

We checked off 29. ✅

Plot Twist: It wasn’t the pandemic that ended our adventure. It was a sewer leak. Our toilet flush stuck down and flooded our brand new 2021 RV. Here’s my soapbox reminder: buy water sensors for your home whether it has wheels or not.

My parents owned a home in LB and had gone north for the summer. Without hesitation they offered it as an option for us. We agreed to using their home as a “rest and reassess our goals”, but only for FOUR weeks. Well here we are just shy of a year later and we’re still here.

The moral of our story, just don’t leave. The details have a way of figuring themselves out when they’re supposed to. Have we found our forever? Maybe. Have we found our right now? Absolutely!

While we continue to soak in all the awe and wonder of the area, we’re thrilled to be sharing much of our adventures with you here and via Instagram @losbarriles.life

Cheers to adventure,

Melissa
