What Moms really want for Mother’s Day!

El Dia de la Madre in Mexico and Mother’s Day in the United States share the same goal, but celebrate on different days. This is news to me, but I’m soaking in the ‘idea’ of celebrating moms on two days this year!

In the United States, Mother’s Day is honored on the 2nd Sunday in May every year. It’s a day to celebrate the moms in your life. Mother’s Day became an official holiday in the US in 1914.

El Dia de la Madre is celebrated on May 10 the no matter what day of the week it falls on. My research tells me there’s a lot more celebrating for moms in Mexico than the states! 😉 It is customary to be at your mother’s home before she wakes up. Then kids sing her a song to say good morning and begin the festivities. Some families even have mariachi bands to accompany their singing! I don’t think I need the band wake up! Haha. The most common song is “Las Mananitas” or “The Dawn”, also the birthday song of Mexico. Mother’s are given flowers, candy and special presentations at the children’s school. Churches offer a dedicated mass for moms and businesses let moms leave early from work. This is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants, which is arguably the same in the United States.

Los Barriles.Life is supported by two amazing mommas and founded by Priscilla Duran. She is a mom first and an entrepreneur second. Her little girl, Luna, age 2, is the light of her world! She’s a wonderful mom, who works hard for the dreams of her family. Melissa has two little ones, Isla, age 6, and Bauer, age 4. They keep Melissa on her toes, always ready for the next adventure. Luna better start teaching them that Mother’s Day song.
